Orthodontic treatment is no longer just for Children and teens. In fact, today, at least one in five orthodontic patients is an adult. Many adults are choosing to receive treatment because they understand the importance of maintaining their health, and they want to feel better about their appearance. Adults everywhere are taking advantage of the new esthetic and almost invisible appliances to receive orthodontic care, and now you can achieve the beautiful smile you have always wanted. In addition, not all adult treatments take the standard 22 months.

One part of adult orthodontics involves what is called “limited treatment” and commonly treats esthetic and/or functional problems limited to the alignment of teeth and/or spacing and minor protrusions without correction of the bite, addressing individualized patients needs.

This limited treatment can take as little as 3-4 months and averages 6-8 months.

Why should you consider orthodontic treatment?

Straight teeth are healthy teeth — Teeth that are properly aligned are easier to keep clean with flossing and brushing, and may help prevent other health problems.

A beautiful, straight smile builds confidence — Orthodontic treatment can help boost your self-confidence, giving you a better quality of life and the freedom to smile without holding back!

Mouths left untreated can get worse — Not receiving orthodontic treatment when it's needed can create long-term health issues costing you more in the end.

Is orthodontic treatment effective for adults?

Yes. Healthy teeth can be moved at any age.

Many orthodontic problems can be corrected as easily for adults as for children. Orthodontic forces move teeth in the same way for both adults and children.

Do appliances have to show?

Many options are available today to minimize the appearance of braces (ex: Invisalign®...) . Today’s appliances are smaller and sleeker, and some are next-to-invisible. We can advise you as to what options are recommended for your particular needs.

Will orthodontic treatment fit my lifestyle?

You can do almost anything during orthodontic treatment — sing, play a musical instrument, dine out, kiss, and even have your picture taken. Some adjustments will be necessary, but, if you’re like the vast majority of adult patients, you’ll adjust quickly. New techniques and materials today have made orthodontic treatment more comfortable than ever.

Am I a good fit for orthodontic treatment?

Consulting with an orthodontist can help to determine if you can benefit from treatment. After carefully analyzing the nature of your needed correction, your orthodontist will recommend the best course of treatment for improving your smile.

I’m missing some teeth. Can orthodontic treatment improve my bite?

Orthodontic treatment can create or hold space to replace missing teeth. The orthodontist will work with the dentist or dental specialist who will provide bridges or implants so that the patient achieves the best result.

I’ve been treated for gum disease. Can my teeth be straightened?

Your orthodontist will consult with your dentist and/or periodontist about the health of you gums. If you are a candidate for orthodontic treatment, you will continue regular supervision with your dentist and periodontist. In many cases, tooth alignment can improve the health of the gums.
